This is my sweet Lulu. Also, affectionately know as lulu bear or juju bee.

Lulu was a rescue dog that weighed just under 12 pounds when she arrived on my door a little over 6 years ago; already a full grown dog in her senior years. She had been abused and was at a puppy mill. Not to mention had heartworms and a hernia and needed extensive treatment. Lulu pulled through and through my cooking and prescription chow put on the much needed weight. She had an instant family with two other pugs: Barry and Priscilla. I did my best to treat her like the princess she was but had never known. She went everywhere with us and was the happiest dog. Lulu does not look it here, but then again we would not either if we were in this costume.

Lulu’s life got even better when Jason (my husband) came into it. He was insistent on including all our dogs in everything: from car to boat rides. And with Jason came along two additional huskies: Brock and Carmine. One big, happy dog loving family. Treats, toys and car trips, we lived for it all 24/7. Jason and I have never lost a dog before. If you have, then you are all too familiar with the stages of denial. Mine is blaming myself. Lulu died in my arms with Jason stroking her tiny frail head next to me as we waited for the vet. She had apparently suffered a stroke and the other dogs woke us up to alert us. As I was holding her I actually witnessed a tear from her eye. Lulu cried as she said goodbye.

My heart will long and ache for Lulu everyday for the rest of my life and all I can hope for it that she is in heaven (maybe with some of her puppies) playing , ageless and no longer in any pain. From the hearts that could not have loved her any more. Goodbye, my sweet lulu bear. I will forever hear you running clumsily all over the house, barking to be picked up and put on the sofa and feel you under my feet in the kitchen waiting for a scrap or to lick the bowl.

Forgotten Friends is an 501 c (3) Austin, TX-based rescue group that was started ten years ago to help reduce the number of sweet, loving dogs that die everyday in area shelters for lack of a suitable home. We are supported solely by volunteers and donations from the community. We are volunteer-based and all of our funds are used for the care and maintenance of our rescued dogs. Puppies and dogs enter our program from area shelters and stay at a private mini shelter until foster homes become open or new fosters sign on. Then they can be moved out to a foster home for training before going to new families. If there are no available fosters, the dogs reside at the shelter until they are adopted. Our mission is to rehome our puppies and dogs into homes who are fully committed to their lifetime care. We are committed to finding the very best match between the needs of our adopters and our dogs by carefully screening applications, meet & greet sessions, home visits and vet checks.
